The paper deals with the valency frames of Czech light verb constructions which are hard to distinguish from other similar phrases by purely formal criteria only. It argues that there is no particular frame of a verb-noun phrase which cannot be derived from valency of the verb and the abstract noun.
The diachronic approach is further used to analyze Modern Czech constructions with a unique valency frame of the verb and show the parallels with non-abstract nouns in older, but also in contemporary archaic language.
