Wandering Through Bohemian Forest: A Few Remarks On Josef Váchal's Bohemian Forest Dying and Romantic

Publication |
2010

Abstract

The article covers several aspects of Josef Váchal's book Šumava dying and romantic (1931): inspiration by the novels of Karel Klostermann and motifs of inaccessibility, low visibility and taking the wrong way, which permeate Váchal's text, as well as determine his images. These are interpreted as specific artistic phantasms of Váchal's traveling through Šumava - as paradoxical images of such places, which cannot be located or embodied into the peculiar book of travels.
