Airway devices suitable for use by general practitioners

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2009

Abstract

Securing patient airway and establishing intravenous access are basic skills to manage medical emergencies, and should be completed by all the physicians due to their competence, experience and available equipment. The article focuses on simple methods of airway management, which can be done completely without any devices (head tilt) or that require minimal costs (combitube, laryngeal mask airway, laryngeal tube, cricothyroidotomy).

Modern supraglottic devices can be used in urgent situations after minimal training, and are suitable as a standard equipment of general practitioners.
