Several studies have shown that activation of a certain social stereotype can influence subsequent performance. The aim of our study was to determine whether activation of the stereotype of a certain genre of music listeners can affect mental performance, learning foreign words.
In the first experiment it was found that the preference genre of classical music is stereotypically associated with the idea of higher intelligence and performance compared to the stereotype techno listeners. In the second experiment was a test before learning foreign words activated the stereotype of classical music listeners, or techno.
The results showed that activation of the stereotype of classical music listeners leads to a slightly better test results compared with the stereotype techno listeners.
