EXTERNAL COSTS OF TRANSPORT: valuation of travel time and traffic noise

Abstract

The international conference was held on 16th November 2011 at the National Technical Library in Prague. Results from research on valuation of travel time in passenger traffic and traffic noise in the CR and abroad were presented, and use of these results in the transport planning and evaluation of transport projects was discussed.

The conference program was divided into two sessions, morning session was devoted to the valuation of travel time, then the valuation of traffic noise followed in the afternoon. The conference concluded with a discussion panel with the participation of representatives of government, business, academia and NGOs on possible ways to incorporate the results into practice of economic assessment of transport plans and projects.

The main conference speakers were Dr. Farideh Ramjerdi from Transportokonomisk institutt Oslo and Professor Ståle Navrud from Norwegian University of Life Sciences, who are recognized experts in valuation of non-market goods and their use in evaluating the costs and benefits.
