Abstract

A negative influence of preoperative fasting to peroperative and postoperative conditions of patients is examineted from various positions in many European states. Peroral intake during an operative day before surgery has a character of standard clinical practice into the method which is named ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery).

The administration of a liguid diet during a few hours preoperatively is one of this methods. We try to find the reasons for keeping of this rule with advantage of peroral intake instead fasting before an operation in general anesthesia.
