"Could you see her, Kostelnicka!" Gender analysis of the Kostelicka from the book Jeji pastorkyna by Gabriela Preissova

Abstract

The article analyses ways of compliance with gender stereotypes as well as their subversion in Gabriela Preissová's drama Her Stepdaughter. Drawing on Foucault, the article discusses the main protagonit's - Kostelnička's - position both within discourse and power relations as they are represented in the drama.

The article concludes that the complexity of Kostelnička's position has a detrimental effect on the character's freedom in acting and agency.
