The challenge of freedom of conscience to current theology on a background of one discussion

Publication at Hussite Theological Faculty |
2012

Abstract

This chapter analyses the concept of freedom of conscience which is presented as one of the fundamental features of the CCSH's spiritual atmosphere. The author delineates the differences between rival interpretations of the concept and characterizes the ensuing disputes over its proper meaning.

The concept of freedom of conscience represents a creative tension between a personal encounter with the Father in Christ's Spirit and the Church's dogmatic formulations. The concept keeps the CCSH's theology open for new challenges and expresses the principal ecclesia semper reformanda.
