The Chapter deals with the concepts like quality of education and evaluation of educational work of the teacher and comparison of educational results. It points to both the importance of standards and to the difficulties of their implementation.
Further more, it discusses the concept of competence and its relevance for framework educational programs and for in-service teacher's education. The paper also focuses on some less discussed trends in education: instability-permanent change, reduction of education, emphasis on practical implementation of knowledge, depreciation os system, etc.
The final part presents contemporary project of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport- the project of career progression. The Chapter has been prepared in the framework of the research project MSM 0021620862: "The teacher's profession in the changing conditions of educational challenges".
