As in other countries of the former Eastern bloc, concept of modernity played a key role in Albanian communist ideology. Albanian political leadership, based on the Marxist-Leninist theory, presented the achievements of its government and thus its legitimacy by refering to the general progress of the country that Albania has reached after the Second World War.
The article deals with the narrative of Albanian history, created by the party's ideologues. This narrative of the Albanian history was based on the contrast between the current state of Albania and the time before the Communists came to power.
