Photodynamic therapy (PDT) involves the administration of a photosensitizer followed by illumination. Elemental principle depends on selective accumulation of the photosensitizing substance in the tumour mass and appropriate wave lenght illumination afterwards.

The antitumour effects result from the direct killing of malignant cells (necrosis), shutting down of the tumor vasculature, and indirectly the promotion of an immune response (apoptosis). In our experiment, the effects phototherapy with hydroxyaluminium phthalocyanine ([Al(OH)Pc]) on the growth of implanted human breast adenocarcinoma cell line was studied.

Our photosensitizer was applicated explicitly locotopically by its ointment lipophile form. We offer this as a new modality for treatment of patients with this disease.
