Publication at Faculty of Education |

Abstract

The study "Evaluating the development of the learning to learn competency in classwork" has been created for the following reasons: a) The competency "learning to learn" appears in the lists of key educational competencies in the documents of the European Union, as well as in the Czech general curriculum. b) In our everyday school instruction, the cultivation of various aspects of the learning to learn compentency is not reflected and consciously guided in a fully satisfying manner. c) Various aspects of developing the learning competency can be observed in the form of situations and activities which fulfill these aspects. Therefore, the text proposes both theoretical insights into the problem as well as a practical aid for evaluating the opportunities of developing this competency in school instruction.

The aid has been verified by research. The instrument is an observation sheet including eighteen situations and charateristics of a lesson.

The characteristics are further specified into a list of actions. We can evaluate the quality of development of the competency "learning to learn" through observing these situations and characteristics in specific school lessons.
