Abstract
The paper is focused on the features and functions that the modernity imposed on the figure of engineer. Like in the former times, the engineer is still characterized by his capacity to apply scientific knowledge in constructions of machines and buildings.
The decisive change of his position happened in the moment when this capacity got the broad field of applications in the technical urbanism. At the same time is sphere of technical approaches is extended to the large scope of life.
In this way the new technologies of life emerge.
