The quality of foreign language teaching is directly related to the development language literacy of pupils in all of its areas (logically to the development of phonetic literacy). Special attention will be paid to the textbook as an important factor influencing the quality of foreign language teaching.
Based on the structure and the amount of instructions for practising pronunciation in the textbook series for Russian langure teaching/learning "Pojechali" a "Raduga po novomu" the role of textbook in the process of the formation of phonetic liteacy will be pointed out.
