Abstract
Article characterizes the destructive results of chemicals use in intensive agriculture operated in arid regions, which is dependent on irrigation, on environment. It is focused on examples of Salton Sea in Imperial Valley and also Central Valley in SE California.
These processes and the implications are examined in a broader economic, social and environmental contexts.
