Maximum Christianity : Adolf Kajpr SJ and Journal Catholic

Publication |
2012

Abstract

Adolf Kajpr SJ (1902-1959) was a man with an extraordinary life and destiny. The book presents his life destiny and his bibliography and also presents testimony of eyewitnesses on this outstanding personality of the Czech Church's history.

The book deals in more detail with the journal Catholic. It presents the programme and method which Kajpr and his colleagues determined for this journal.

The bibliography of the journal records the results of their effort while following both the content of particular volumes and particular authors. Special attention is paid to the fact how Kajpr understood the relationship between Christianity and society.

It notices how his thinking about society had starting points in a Christ-centric interpretation of human's existence and that his second linchpin - verified by experience - was a criticism of atheistic humanism of all kinds, of course particularly - due to the time - the communist one. Kajpr in his social thinking reached open appreciation for what today is called Christian socialism.

From these premises we can understand how according to Kajpr a Catholic should understand a society or a state and what the constitutive elements of a Christian relationship towards politics are.
