This chapter attempts to map recent events and trends subsequent to the end of the Cold War in 1989 as well as possible future developments concerning the Orthodox Church in Czech Lands and Slovakia. The dissolution of the Czechoslovak Republic (1993) and the creation of two new independent states, the Czech and Slovak Republics, brought fundamental changes to the church's organizational structure.

It can be assumed that, due to the increasing secularization of Czech society as well as continuing immigration from dominantly Orthodox Ukraine and Russia, the significance of the Orthodox Church in Czech society will continue to gradually increase as will Orthodoxy's presence in Czechia's religious landscape.
