The paper presents the potential of the use of Computer Algebra Systems in mathematics education of gifted pupils, especially in solving problems whose standard solution goes beyond their current knowledge. The obstacles that pupils meet may be caused by technical demands (making use of the computational power of computers) or by high difficulty of the problem, significantly exceeding the level of mathematics pupils have met (using the opportunity to model the solution numerically).
However, appropriate use of computers means using it only in such situations when it really brings benefit either opens new possibilities or significantly decreases the amount of time needed for carrying out of technical calculations. Appropriate use of computer in mathematics education of gifted pupils is illustrated on the complex problem Bullet and target.
