Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2012

Abstract

The paper discusses development of theories of non-democratic regimes at the turn of 1950s'and 1960s'. Firstly, the influence of the behavioral revolution in the then western political science on the research of the Soviet block is introduced.

Secondly, the crucial role of H. Gordon Skilling on initiating and formulating of new approaches is examined.

And finally, the author of the paper will demonstrate how Skillig's legacy could be useful for current research. However, the dispute between proponents and opponents of "totalitarian model" is still ongoing.

The knowledge of Skilling's argumentation can significantly enrich today's academic discourse.
