The chapter in the book is an overview classifying the groups of biologically significant environmental pollutants (xenobiotics) and describing their toxic effect on organisms including human. It answers two major questions concerning the pollutants: (i) how can pollutants (xenobiotics) influence the intermediate metabolism of living organisms and (ii) how livings organisms can influence the fate of xenobiotics in the environment including their own metabolism.
