Abstract
The chapter was written for a manual for students of ethonology/ historical anthroplogy. It gives an overview of development and institutionalization of urban history in European context.
In the second part it offers an overview of czech urban history in last 20 years. It highlights the interdisciplinary exchanges with sociology, ethnology in particular.
