As it has often been stated there seems to be a gap between two aspects of Aristotle's theory of freedom, namely the concept of voluntary and moral choice representing the inner aspect of freedom on one hand and the culturally anthropological concept of political freedom on the other. Moreover, in both cases there is a tension between freedom as an innate quality of a person and freedom as a morally relevant task.
The text proposes that Aristotle's theory of slavery delivers a clue for both gaps. The figure of the nature slave is a model for actualization of men's dynamics toward freedom that corresponds to crossing the limits of private sphere of household and appearance in the public sphere of polis.
