The common theme of Textbook of Ecological Anthropology: America are human societies in relation to their environment in the Americas. Authors of selected texts present different topics on the basis of various theoretical and methodological approaches in social and cultural anthropology.
Texts in the spatial dimension relate to different areas from the Arctic to the Amazon, the temporal dimension ranging from prehistory to the present. The spectrum of topics outlined here ranges from issues of adaptation of hunters and gatherers in the Arctic and sub-Arctic areas, over the issue of human sacrifice in Aztec schools in the concept of cultural materialism, or vice versa critique cultural materialism on the case Hutterits, evangelical church whose footprint in history began in Central Europe and ended on the North American plains, the concept of "ecological Indian", to the study of contemporary topics such as the relation between ecology and poverty, social movements and environmental activism in relation to nature conservation in Mexico or the Amazon, or water management in the Andes.
The book contains 13 texts by various authors that have been translated from a foreign professional periodicals, and are complemented by an extensive introductory study.
