Castoriadis as a civilizational analyst: Sense and non-sense in ancient Greece

Abstract

This paper discusses Castoriadis's interpretation of ancient Greece and argues that it can be understood in civilizational terms; the key part is his account of a Greek view of the human condition as the existence of mortals in a world of imperfect order, superimposed on underlying chaos.
