Abstract

Before the summer Olympic Games 2012, professional sport cardiologists screened 32 teams from different countries and disciplines for a risk of sudden cardiac death. Occurrence of sudden death in athletes due to cardiac arrest is estimated in the ratio of 1: 50 000 athletes, but the real numbers are likely to be even higher.

The authors summarize the preventive measures implemented during preparations for the Olympic Games in London.
