Abstract

At the beginning of the 70s Zdeněk Trtík wrote a series of studies to analyze Hus's ecclesiological attitudes. According to Trtík, Hus understood predestination as Aristotelian-Thomistic form, which transforms a community of people in the mystical body of Christ.

Predestination is not tied with a particular person, but it is the grace which is offered to all righteous. Hus could preserve through it the meaning the last judgment along with a dimension of responsibility of each person for their actions.

This paper analyzes the legitimacy of Trtík's interpretation of Hus's ecclesiology. It admits the possibility of Hus's understanding of predestination as Aristotelian-Thomistic form, but also points out that Hus's system was much more complicated than generally believed.

Hus was not only a supporter of negative foreknowledge of damnation, but also positive foreknowledge of salvation. On the positive foreknowledge then he builds dual positive predestination - temporary and permanent.

The paper also points out that the mystical body of Christ is according to Hus a visible reality.
