Physics Actively, in an actual way and with applications

Publication at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
2012

Abstract

The aim of the book is to provide a general view on active methods and on using of experiments in physics teaching and learning. This requires informing also on some more general concepts and modern approaches to physics education.

Approaches known as "constructivism" and "inquiry based science education" are briefly presented; then "key competences" are discussed. Following chapter presents a general view on experiments in teaching and learning, mentioning both some critical remarks and positive recommendations.

Also, the "multilayer character" of school experiments, their description and theoretical analysis is illustrated at one concrete example (discharging of a capacitor). Next chapter concerns conceptual understanding and how it can be tested.

Some results of research using Conceptual test on Electricity and magnetism are presented there. The following chapter informs on four books of the module "Physics" published in the project "Science and mathematics at secondary schools in Prague: actively, currently and with applications".

The book provides also a list of resources follows where further ideas and instructions for both the experiments and the active work in general in physics teaching and learning can be found.
