Difficulty of word problems - a point of view of the pupils

Abstract

15 years old pupils posed problems based on two different situations. An analysis of posed problems from the perspective of mathematical variables showed the mathematical methods and knowledge considered as difficult by the pupils.

Except some mathematical models (circumference of a figure, part-whole relations), the use of percentages, fractions, decimal and irrational numbers was considered as difficult by the pupils.
