This thesis investigates the phenomenon of World Englishes (WEs) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) as they relate to the linguistic and teaching situation (TEFL) in the Czech Republic. We explore if and how the observed 'paradigmatic shift' is and/or possibly should be reflected in the teaching practice and in teacher training.
Presently, paradigmatic changes may be observed on many levels. We analyze the current competing models and trends and conclude that a polymodel and/or endonormative, ELF-open approach may be of significance in the future.
