This monograph deals with the life and work of Archimedes of Syracuse. The first part provides detailed information concerning his life and reception of his work, discovery of the lost works and translations to Czech.
The second part contains treatises which focus on selected mathematical works of Archimedes: Measurement of a circle, The Sand-reckoner, The Method of Archimedes, Archimedean solids, Stomachion, The Cattle-problem. In the appendix there is a treatise on computation of square roots in antiquity.
