Abstrakt
This paper focuses on the research of the relationship between Czech and Austrian cultures in the first half of the 19th century. The main part of this paper is based on the comparison of two literary works, Franz Grillparzer's comedy Weh dem, der lügt! and Tyl's adaptation of this drama into the Czech cultural context as prose.
The most important differences are the following: change of historical and geographic setting, both shortening and expansion of the original text and changing the sense of the whole text. This paper shows how freely and creatively Tyl worked with Grillparzer's drama.
