Abstract

It is the aim of this article to investigate the usage of lapis lazuli in the Amarna Letters. There are various expressions employed to identify the material.

Both the geographical distribution and social context are discussed with conclusions pertaining the social organization and gift-giving procedures in the 14th century BC Levant.
