The retrospective study was carried out in the Bělohrad Spa (Czech Republic). The authors set themselves a task to evaluate the effect of spa therapy in patients with idiopathic scoliosis.
In 233 children at the age of 12-15 years, who repeatedly spend their time in the spa, selected parameters - functional vital capacity, chest mobility, shortened muscles and muscular strength -were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the stay. The results made it clear that with growing number of the stay in spa the patients 'conditions continually improved and a prolong effect became manifest only after repeated stay.
The authors also draw attention to the importance and necessity of preventive procedures in children with idiopathic scoliosis and a possible role of the spa institutions in this area.
