Abstract

This article deals with the "rohacky" sledge whose name is derived from two upright pieces of wood. The "rohacky" sledge was designed for transporting material from the sheer mountain tops and it was characterised by solidly constructed sides. "Rohacky" was used for transporting wood in winter and for carrying hay or food in summer by attaching special wheels to the runners.

The "rohacky" sledge was introduced to the Krkonose Mountains in the 16th century by Alpine woodcutters who were hired for cutting and transporting wood in the Krkonose Mountains. "Rohacky" continued to be used for transporting wood until the 1970s. Today the "rohacky" is used for races organised in the Krkonose Mountains every year.
