Non-manual aspects in sign languages: some brief introductory notes

Abstract

Based on the findings of sign language linguistics, the text addresses problems connected with the semiotic specificities of sign languages, with special focus on non-manual behavior (verbal vs. non-verbal character, grammatical vs. prosodic vs. pragmatic functions, the position within the system of language ).
