Abstract
The essay deals with the Czech contemporary history - surveying the main fields of research, analytical tools, controversies, and the transformation of the discipline. The essay argues that there is a clear conceptual shift in Czech contemporary history, from the totalitarian paradigm towards a more complex view of dictatorship and its social and political preconditions.
