The essay deals with the development of the Russian education system and analysis the question to what extent the Central Europe participated in the modernization process. It deals also with the reasons why almost 50 percent of the Russian graduates studied in Central Europe, which problems they had to face, how they participated in the modernization of the Russian empire after their return and how the education did help them.
The essay researches also the reception of the Central European culture. At least it deals with the history of the Russian education system in the 18th century, particularly under Peter the Great and Katharina the Great.
