Reading with Hindsight: What Need Not Have Been Published, But Was

Publication |
2012

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the contributions which the review section of Slovak Ethnology published during the period from the journal's inception to the end of the 1980s. Attention is focused on those reviews which were unforced, i.e. which drew attention to publications whose importance was not determined by the officially sanctioned plans for scholarly activity.

The paper shows how these reviews, by drawing attention to foreign publications and projects, contributed to extending the research field and differentiating methodological premises.
