The Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language by František Ladislav Čelakovský

Abstract

In the current article Čelakovský is presented as a scholar of Lituanian studies - lexicographer. His Litevský slovník, on which he worked from ca. 1825, and whose first version must have appeared ca. 1827 (not later than 1833, as a copy of the dictionary made by Pavel Šafařík dates back to that year), is brought into scholarly circulation.

The second version of the dictionary should be dated 1851. The purpose, nature and sources of the dictionary are discussed.
