The paper deals with the state of Russian language teaching in the Czech Republic since 1990. The author points out the problems related particulary to teaching Russian at Czech schools, namely the transformation of Russian language teacher's education at both graduate and postgraduate levels, which reflected a) the changes of political and linguistic situation in Russia, b) the institution of the European framework for language teaching, c) the institution of the state level secondary schoool leaving exam in foreign languages, and d) the specific problems of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
The paper also mentions the projects of curricular transformation funded by the Charles Universitty Science Foundation and the Study Programmes Transformation Grants of the Czech Ministry of Education. Particular attention is given to new complex Manuals of Russian language and Refresher Courses form Russian teachers.
