How important are international and domestic factors for the implementation and compliance with the obligations of the international climate regime? This paper analyzes the implementation and compliance with the commitments the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol on the cases of seven comparable countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Portugal and Sweden, which have hitherto achieved various levels of success in achieving their goals in climate protection. Based on a detailed study of various reports and analysis of factors such as level of ambition in international environmental policy, GDP and change in energy intensity of GDP, essay comes to the conclusion that the change in energy intensity of GDP is in line with the significant level of consolidation, ie, in moderation reducing total greenhouse gas emissions, suggesting a close interdependence of energy national economies to climate change.
