The aspect of deverbative passive adjectives

Abstract

The aspect of a deverbative passive adjective (DPA) originates from its verb, ie. from the passive participle. In most cases we can determine the aspect of DPA from verbs which originate from Czech.

The situation is more complicated when it comes to DPA originating from foreign verbs. These DPA are combined with Czech prefixes.

That usually leads to a change in the meaning of the foreign base and contributes to a higher degree of the perfective aspect. However, in general terms their aspect remains ambiguous.
