Abstract

While the fact that regional integration is not a phenomenon limited to Europe is everything but new, the attention of both decision-makers and researchers is often captured almost exclusively by its frontrunner: the European Union. Conversely, those who deal with regional integration in Africa, Asia and Latin America frequently adopt a hesitant position towards anything labelled ‘European’ and make considerable efforts to emphasize the boundaries between Europe and their respective regional domains.
