Russian mortality crisis and its consequences for future development of society

Abstract

This paper describes mortality development in Russia, focusing on the period after the collapse of the Soviet Union, which is often called as "mortality crisis". The article also describes consequences that this crisis had on Russian society.

Development of mortality in the greatest country in the world has been analyzed by using selected decomposition methods often used in demographic literature.
