Positions of social workers' views about residential care for people with dementia

Abstract

The reform of social services in the Czech Republic faces numerous obstacles, primarily in the residential setting. Various professions participate in these services.

In order to show how social workers may be of benefit to reforms, we have compared views regarding the care within a team of professionals who hold differing roles. The results of a questionnaire survey show the readiness of a group of 560 professionals working in residential facilities for the elderly to apply the person-centred approach to care.

Regardless of the organisational context, social workers favoured the client-centred approach more often than did other team members.
