The main purpose of the article is to provide reader with an overview of alcohol use among college and university students. The data about prevalence of use abroad and in Czech Republic are given in the first part of the article.
Typical pattern of alcohol use among college and university students is binge drinking. The information is given to the Czech reader about prevalence, risk factors and characteristics of the binge drinker.
The part of the article is focusing on motivational models of alcohol drinking among students. It is shown that the universal models are not sufficient in describing the students’ motivational dynamics, since these don’t usually include the typical aspects of students’ life, such as social environment of students’ dormitories and other.
The information about intervention techniques realized abroad is given in the final part of the article.
