Abstract

Comorbidities of psoriasis are partly immunopathologically caused inflammatory diseases – psoriatic arthtritis, Bechterev´s disease, Crohn´s disease and ulcerative colitis, partly components of metablic syndrome – type II diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, hypercoagulation, steatohepatitis; but also lymphomas and depression. Patients with psoriasis have a higher incidence of atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, ischemic disease of the legs and strokes and their life expectancy is shortened.

The risk of such diseases correlates with the severity and duration of psoriasis and age of the patient. The early started, sufficient effective and long-term treatment of psoriasis seems to have a preventive effect on development of comorbidities and vice versa- intensive therapy of comorbidities may lead to more favourable course of psoriasis.
