Among the most serious viral infections in patients with hematological malignity belongs DNA herpes viruses (CMV, HSV-1, HSV-2, HSV-3, VZV). Modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures resulted in reduced mortality from these infections.
Another group are the respiratory viral infections (CRV)as influenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human metapneumovirus, and more recently the current H1N1 flu virus and parainfluenza virus. Less common are adenoviruses, are rare infections caused by Polyomaviruses - Polyomavirus hominis 1, the BK virus (BKV) is an agent of hemorrhagic cystitis and the other - neurotropic JC virus (JCV) - is the agent of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.
