After fluconazole introduction, besides a slow decrease of incidence of candidiasis, a lower appearance of Candida albicans infections and relatively higher incidence of infections caused by non-albicans Candida species was seen. This fact should influence the decision what antimycotic use both for prophylaxis and treatment.
We present a review of epidemiologic data concerning incidence of candidemia mainly in Europe and Czech and Slovak republics, with emphasizing changing spectrum of Candida spp.
