Abstract
The article provides an overview of current health promotion in the Czech Republic in an international context. The major behavioural risk factors of the Czech population are described and analysed through available date on the prevalence of alcohol consumption, smoking and obesity in comparison to EU countries.
The role of primary care physicians in health promotion and disease prevention is discussed. The good practice examples of primary care physicians involvement in health promotion in the UK and Sweden are presented.
